RACE #6 ELECTRIC MOTOR SPEEDWAY

I want to thank everyone that came out for Event #6 of the Southern Sportsman and Southern Muscles Series.  It rained hard Friday evening and throughout the night, so it was damp, cool and sloppy outside.  Fortunately for us, it was hot inside (whether is was due to the heaters or the action packed racing, you'll have to decide).  This event had 13 entries in the Southern Sportsman Series and 12 entries for the Southern Muscle Series.  Unfortunately, Lewis had to leave before the Muscle race began, leaving us with 11 participants.  There were a few hard luck stories and just a wreck or two too many, but it is all a part of racing.  The one thing that can be said for this season is that the competition is getting even tougher.  Even though the lap counts (after penalties and electrical or mechanical failures) may not reflect it, there was a lot of close racing going on for both classes.  I want to welcome the newcomers to the two series, John Shea and Troy Walker.  We look forward to racing with again.

This event introduced the "O goes HO" 1949 Mercury Coupes on Magna Traction chassis for the IROC race.  Surprisingly, these bulky bodies with a high stance handled good.  I believe they will be slammed as low as they can go for future racing though.

IROC Results:

1) Skylar Spake                144
2) Chris Walker                133
3) Gary Butner                129
4) John Shea                127
5) Dwayne Hoyle        126
     Ray Utz                126
7) Alan Moss                125
    Mike Reed                125
9) Carl Huffman                124
10) Andy Lancaster        122
11) Ricky Fender        108
12) Troy Walker                94

The day finished out with some 1/24 scale racing.  It is unfortunate that there is not many that race both HO and 1/24 scale, but we did see a few of the HO racers stay over.
