SOUTHERN SPORTSMAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2011

Another SOUTHERN SPORTSMAN season comes to an end. And what a season it was we had 30 racers that raced with us from Sept to May. New friends were made new rivalries were born. The quality of the racers and race venues were some of the best in the country. The racing was and will be some of the best you will every see and enjoy.It started with the Southern 500 week end at Tony's MONSTER MOTOR PLEX and it all came to a close at the same place. Championships were decided.

I need to thank all of our sponsors, racers, track owners and their familys for every thing you all do for this sport and and putting up with all of kids
who have yet to grow up to play with our toy cars.

Through out the season we had build classes, one on one tune session, this group has grown to one of the best around. The cars are faster, they drive better, racers have all improved. You'll never know who will be on the podium at the end of the day. We saw 1st time winners, some of the best looking cars, and fastest cars you will ever see. Track records drop at every track this year. Lap times and lap totals, some of which I did not think we would ever see.

We also fielded a team at the ECHORR CHALLENGE, that did very well as a first time team with a mix of veterans and newbies. They learned alot and discovered alot that they brought back to the club and will field another team this year.

The club also started to include IROC races that were a blast, everything from t-jet indy cars and echorr classics to blistering fast tycos and life-like cars.It was a great addition to an already great program.

We lost a few friend this year and we will miss them all. We will alway remember what they brought to our club and our friendship.

SOUTHERN SPORTSMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The day started early LCHOR club opened the doors at 8am shortly there after racers started showing up. Race practice ran till 12pm. There would be 3 races on this day. Racers tuned on there cars and lap times started to drop.We had 10 racer join in on this fun,

We lost Tony to the doctors he had been bit by a spider the day before and swelled up like a balloon and had to leave us to go to the docs every thing worked out he was feeling a little better later in the day so he did not get to race (hope you feel better buddy). Ray was also under the weather but he made it through hope you feel better too.

At 12pm we had a short drivers meeting and the racers were placed in rotation and off to the races we go. The 1st race was SOUTHERN SPORTSMAN with today's NASCAR bodies.

These boys came out flyin low Chris walker set a fast pace and never looked back. ran an 82 in orange lane the tightest lane on the track. Chris is a great driver but he was on a mission with his freshly tuned missile (by Kevin) . Knowing one slip by Kevin and the championship would be his. He was knocking down lap times by .2 of sec faster then the field. Dwayne was not far behind as we ran through the field the cars got faster the driving was better.Andy started to show his oats and started running down Chris with Mike in tow i think Andy's car was faster than Chris' in the straight but Chris would beat him through the corners.Then he made a few mistake and let Chris get away.Then Kevin came on to the track Chris rotated off Chris sat by and watch the heat and he wont tell you but i think he knew he had this one in the bag Kevin won the heat but only turn an 82 in red

When Chris rotated back on there was 5 lanes left The battle was on Chris and Kevin ran away from the field racing each other by the end they were 30 laps ahead of 3rd place but when the smoke clear Chris had put 3 laps on Kevin and won the 1st race of the day With the rest of the field battling for 3rd the next 3 were with in 3 laps of each other

Now the second race was SOUTHERN SPORTSMAN with vintage NASCAR bodies (AFX bodies that have been posted for t-jets) This is a new Body that the club has tryed 2 times this year and it worked out very well and was cool to see what was done with these cars

Kevin's only hope to win was if Chris had pick the wrong body and lost the handle, but that did not happen it looks like Kevin pick the wrong one because he put a whoopin on the field 13 laps up on kevin and 30 plus on third on back way to drive The field did a little flip-flop Skylar was flyin Andy had settled in and Mike had issues with his car it was just as fun to watch as it was to race i wish we would have filmed this race just to look back and see what i missed.

Now it was time for SOUTHERN MUSCLE ON THE MONSTER (4X20 6 LANE TOMY 116 RUNNING FEET)This was the second year for us to run this class as a club and the cars have more than doubled in performance

This race looked to be Mikes to win in practice he was by far faster than any body by close to a half a second he was running mid 13s and the rest of us were in the 14s

the the MONSTER RAISED ITS UGLY HEAD and took a bite out of use all the track had been setting for about 3 hours the temp had climb up to the mid 80s and humidity was like 90% took a few minute to get the bugs worked out but the track was slick and hard to get a hold of

Again Chris being the cool one that he is just raced the track Mike strugled with a car that was way to fast for track conditions kevins car ran out of oil dwayne got tangle in wrecks alan struggled and crashed out early

Chris just ran laps and won his first muscle car race (which made a big change in points and place in the championship)

It was one great day of racing and friend As dwayne sat at the computer and figured points we all talk about the season

kevin won 5 sportsman races chris won 4 dwayne 1 his first

kevin won 6 muscle car races gary won 1 chris 1

dwayne made all the races chris only missed one

we had a great season we had the most improvement as a club i have ever heard of

we ate pizza,chilli dogs,spaggetti,lasagna,bbq,and way to many snack at he the races this year can wait till next season

when the point were tallied kevin won the SPORTSMAN CHAMPIONSHIP by a mere 15 points over chris, dwayne steped up to 3rd , skylar hung in for 4th

again this years most improved was Andy he jumped up to 5th. There was only 200 points diff between 1st and 5th now where else can you find a championship that close

SOUTHERN MUSCLE was a a very close points race with Kevin winning over Chris and Dwayne now this is were that win today by Chris comes into play Chris and Dwayne tied in point so it falls to who had the most wins ,seconds and 3rds ect.. with chris' win today he takes 2nd place in the point lewis grabs 4th even missing todays race and mike jumps from 20th to 5th wow now thats improvement

WHAT A SEASON this is my 4th year being involved with SOUTHERN SPORTSMAN and have had a blast hope for many more yaers to come

thanks to Gary and Dwayne for taking charge and making this thing work i know it is work to put this together and keep it moving foward
